Johannes Gutfleisch - drums
Johannes Gutfleisch is a drummer, sideman, bandleader, teacher and composer.
Residing in Basel / Switzerland, he has been active in the music scene for 20 years and is known for his profound musical skills in jazz, funk, Latin and fusion music.
At the Laufen music school in Switzerland he is a teacher for drum set, Latin percussion and ensembles.
Coming from a musical family, he learned piano, trumpet and drums. He had drum lessons at the Drum School and Jazz School Basel and then studied at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern with Billy Brooks, Andy Scherer, Joe Haider and Sandy Patton.
During several long stays in New York, he played sessions and gigs in clubs and deepened his knowledge with Gregory Hutchinson, Ari Hoenig, Kenny Washington and others.
At the end of 2022, Johannes and Christian started their first joint project "Gutfleisch Brothers" after years of playing in different formations and together in common formations. The band primarily presents compositions by Johannes and Christian and features Patrick Joray (sax) and Tommy Fuller (b), two young ambitious jazz musicians from Basel/CH.
The "Unity 4tet" was only recently created after Patrick Joray (sax), Samuele Sorana (guit), Tommy Fuller and Johannes Gutfleisch played together regularly for almost a year and now present the shared vibe through their own material, standards & originals.
For some time now he has been a permanent drummer in the following bands:
